What is the process?

What is the process?

These referrals take about 15 to 20 minutes and cover basic questions surrounding eligibility. It also gives you an opportunity to ask questions of our team as this is very much a two-way process.

Once you have completed the referral one of our team will then contact you to arrange an initial visit at which both you and your partner (if you have one) will need attend. At that visit we will talk over what is involved in fostering with you and see how fostering would fit within your existing lifestyle. You will also be asked about completing checks for police and medical etc.

If you still want to proceed, you would then be invited to a training course which is covered under our skills to foster page, but consists of six to eight evening sessions. The assessment, which includes the checks, is carried out in tandem with the training.

Finally, the assessments are then presented to the Fostering Panel and we will let you know whether your application has been successful. In Bournemouth most assessments of potential foster carers are completed within six months.
